Deep-thinking lyricist pairs challenging message with upbeat trap beats on new EP ‘DopeFakks’

GAINESVILLE, FL – The name Fakksonly is the perfect descriptor of the fast-rising hip hop artist out of Gainesville, Florida who is turning heads with his new music. Dedicated to creating music that speaks for his people, Fakksonly is bringing hard-hitting lyrics that speak truth and challenge listeners to sit up and pay attention.

His newest EP, “DopeFakks,” is the perfect example of how his unique sound and style is making a difference in the music industry. Serving as his second solo project, the EP features seven songs with a conscious message that’s paired perfectly with club type beats.

“I’m from the South and I listen to trap and I love that music, so it should come as no surprise that I make that kind of sound,” Fakksonly said. “But this project has a revolutionary message. I’m a very lyrical artist and I provide a lot of information through my music. I just do that with club beats. I don’t do a lot of slow music because I want my music to make you bounce and nod your head before you really hear what it is I’m saying.”

Released on May 4, “DopeFakks” is the kind of project that expertly uses challenging lyrics to empower and uplift anyone who listens. He’s never demeaning with the words he says but instead chooses to tackle tough topics in ways that put current affairs and social issues into proper historical perspective. As such, his music becomes timeless – people could listen to it 100 years from now and learn something and still know that there’s truth in what he says.

“I took a hard look at my life a few years ago and decided that if I was going to die, I wanted to die doing something I love, which is music,” Fakksonly said. “Poetry has always been a gift I’ve had and I’ve always been someone with a strong opinion about things. And though I like writing about love and relationships and stuff like that, what I’m really interested in is my history. I’m a black man in America which means I’m a member of a great group of people. We can all be great and use our love for each other to lift one another up, and that’s what I want my music to represent. I’m trying to use my music to help people understand our true origins and appreciate the artistry that have come from some prominent people in our history – people like Malcolm X and Nikki Giovani and Langston Hughes.”

One of the main singles from the EP is a song called “Incarcerated Tupac” which has been getting some major attention from listeners across the U.S. as well as some regular radio play. Fakksonly sampled Tupac’s “All Eyes On Me” album within the chorus of the song and used it to inspire all those in the world who feel like everyone is against them. A new music video for the single is set to drop on his YouTube channel soon, and live performances are in the works for this summer.

DMV-based rapper/producer Santa Sallet and France-based producer Nemizzo are MSP, presenting their new single “Big Hands”. Sallet has been busy showcasing his brand of East Coast braggadocious rap across a slew of recent singles like “Camouflage” (watch on Youtube), “I Get Money” (watch on Youtube), “Championship Ring” (watch on Youtube) and “Chinese Funk” (watch on Youtube) in preparation for the release of Plutography, Sallet’s forthcoming album which blends salsa beats, southern trap, and eastern jazz with classic and conventional rap samples, reflecting Sallet’s international upbringing across South Africa, Dominica and the US. Sallet is planning a series of full-length releases, among them C.R.E.A.M. which recounts his journey from broke to financially free, and Women and R.A.P. which describe his pursuit of success in relationships and the music industry respectively. “This is the song that really started MSP Tunes,” Santa says. “Nemizzo had laid down his verse and I was like, let me try something on this and I just talked about what I knew. What I think is funny, the outro is actually me recording a bunch of potential beat tags. There was a miscommunication and Nemizzo extended the beat and made it the outro. I like it though lol.” Check out Santa Sallet merch here.
