Many artists use their personal journey as the inspiration for their work, but oftentimes there’s a struggle to maintain the energy necessary to make those points universal, to fuse their lives to those of their listeners. Patrick Cave, better known as IAM Action, has no problem running hot on every track. His modest output — he only has a handful of tracks on SoundCloud but is set to release his 2nd Mixtape TBA — is hip-hop concentrate, equal parts J. Cole-style narration as seen on his 1st Single “Real Love” and effervescent, southern rap roots, & consistent rhyme patterns on his latest single “#iRock”.

Cave is also a SXSW veteran, having played the music festival but the prospect of working with John Legend this time around makes all the difference. Cave wants to get an “inside look on making timeless music and gaining longevity” as an artist. Part of fostering that endurance comes from the way Cave handles himself on stage and it sounds like he has no problem handling the pressure when the lights get bright. “When the crowd cheers you on it’s euphoric,” he told SPIN this March. But music is also something much bigger to the young MC: “It’s the reason our hearts make beats.”

Inspired by a variety of artists that not your average Emcee/Trapper/Rapper is accustom too: Such as A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, Backstreet Boys, & Nick Carter. And heavily inspired by the soundtracks to a variety of Cartoons. Makes up this eclectic Artist the game is missing.

Thai refugee artists Star2 and Seko release “Once In A While”, the heartfelt new single and music video. Both born in the Mae La refugee camp in Thailand, the artists draw on their rich cultural heritage with the song almost entirely sung in the Ka-ren language and the music video filmed in Thailand.

“Once In A While” features poignant lyrics that reflect the deep emotions of longing and love, such as “My tears I secretly wipe them away by myself / I love you so much, so whatever you say is never wrong / I’ll chase after you over a hundred times”. Refugee pop meets hip hop artist Star2 fled his refugee camp as a child when the Burmese Army destroyed their village and attacked them in the middle of the night. Faced with overwhelming heartache and loss growing up, Star2 found his solace in music. He has collaborated with the likes of Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, MBNel, Luh Kel, Lil Poppa, HoodTrophy Bino, YSN Flow, and MarMar Oso just to name a few.
