Kasey Marcelle infuses R&B with rhythm and drill on new EP ‘#iamkaseymarcelle

BROOKLYN, NY – Kasey Marcelle is on a trajectory for everyone in the world to soon know his name. With the release of his introductory EP “#iamkaseymarcelle,” this young artist is set to offer the world a whole new wavelength of sound. With a style that’s been called the street version of The WEEKND, Kasey’s originality brings that street grittiness to the mainstream with hot singles like “#DontBelieveIt.” And with that originality comes a bag of surprises that are turning heads both in and out of the music industry in ever widening circles around the world.

“People see you one way and then hear you and they’re surprised,” Kasey said. “That’s the essence of this album. There’s a new scene in New York called Rhythm and Drill, and I’m one of only two or three other artists who are R&B artists singing over that style of Hip Hop. That’s the new sound I’m bringing, and this project is my attempt to encapsulate all of that. Everything you hear on this is new, but it comes from everything I’ve learned from my previous work with R&B and just bringing it all together and pushing it into a new wave.”

That signature style is put on full display with the hot new single “#DontBelieveIt.” Telling the tale of a guy and his significant other, Kasey takes a real-world situation and weaves a story of a misunderstanding that is Shakespearean at its core, much like the famous play “Much Ado About Nothing.” But with a slow tempo and definitive R&B vibe, this story takes on an intimate feel as Kasey’s smooth vocals invite listeners into a bouncy, soulful song. With vocals that sit in the higher register – almost falsetto – and some minor auto-tuning that gives the song a very modern sound, Kasey is exploring a lot of different vibes: smooth R&B, bouncy Hip Hop, Soul, and Rhythm and Drill.

It’s a song that explores a story that most people are familiar with,” Kasey said. “Her friends see him talking to another female and they run with the phone and take pictures and call his girl and send those pictures. That sends them into a crazy argument and they end up breaking up, but the whole time, the woman he was meeting with was a real estate agent and he was buying them a house. So basically the guy is saying, ‘Don’t believe what your friends are saying.’ It’s real laid-back and chill and everyone can listen to it and enjoy it.”

Kasey said that though his image is street and aggressive, he wants fans to know that his intent is to keep it real and make music for his people. His sound has evolved over the years and today, he hopes more than anything that his music is known for being inspirational while taking listeners on a journey through relatable stories.

“I want to motivate people to believe that they can ‘be,’” he said. ‘To achieve whatever dream they want. People never forget how you make them feel. I want to leave my music and videos like it was fire and make people feel something. This project still leaves me a lot of room for growth as an artist, but it also shows a big evolution from where I used to be. I’m proud of the way it shows different types of sound and the ways I was able to stretch my imagination. That’s the growth I’m hopeful fans will go on a journey with.”

J Lyles makes his return to the world of HipHop, and in a big way, with his new single titled “Here I am”. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from the talented artist but we can officially say those days are over with this new single as Lyles continues to prep a new album that is slated to release this year. Being lyrically relatable has never been a problem for the New Jersey native, and that continues to be true with “Here I am”. Life sometimes takes a toll on us as humans, we all go through ups and downs mentally and physically but those who stay true to themselves while staying afloat through the rough times are the ones that seem to come out the smoke when those bad days disappear. In his own words Lyles describes the song by saying “I discuss various points of my life and the effects of incarceration, family trauma and struggles to get through college and life after college. This song is a testament of wins and losses, pain, and perseverance that led to this version of myself. “Here I Am”.” J Lyles is that exact person that comes out of the smoke battle scarred and tired but wiser and battle tested. He’s always ready to give it his all when those tough times roll back around with rhymes like “Made it to 27 I must be here for a reason/applying pressure smothering all you turkeys that’s under seasoned/they telling me to keep going/my music the voice of reason.” Staying ten toes down with the current version of himself is what the artist is striving for now a days, staying away from those who may not prove to be worthy of being within his circle. “I’m a legend to the game/but I never wanted fame/cause everybody knows your name and unfamiliar with your pain” spits Lyles at the beginning of the second verse, further cementing his true to self rhymes being provided by the man behind the mic. With his debut album titled The Execution still being perfected behind closed doors, J Lyles opens up one door to give new and older listeners a sample of what is to come until the timing is right for The Execution.

(Album) D’Shaun – CRWN @RylDShaun

Backed by only one single, “S’mores & Rumchata”, D’Shaun comes crash landing at #4 onto the iTunes top 40 HipHop album chart and right back into your music libraries with CRWN. The highly anticipated project lived up to expectations on the first day of its release as it also entered yet another chart on iTunes. CRWN peaked at #88 on the top 100 albums in all genres chart, sitting comfortably and confidently above Elton John’s Diamonds. This incredible accomplishment doesn’t happen without D’Shaun and the RYLTY crew’s hard work and dedication to creating an album packed with 12 playable and enjoyable records that each bring a different sound and vibe when stimulating your brain.
D’Shaun continues to put Converse, Texas, on the map as he showcases not only his talent but the talents found within his circle. From Austria to Detroit to Houston, he credits the artists around him for helping provide the “spacey yet quintessential HipHop but with a new school sort of feel” sound that he believes his latest body of work entails. This album not only incorporates HipHop but it also throws some dashes of rap, pop and R&B, adding some more seasoning to the recipe we already knew D’Shaun brought to the table. He’s dabbled in those genres before but with CRWN he brings them altogether in a cohesive manner, letting each live and grow with one another as they flow beautifully the more and more you run the project back. For him, CRWN is set to “change the whole landscape, the city and the state, the lives of each of these young men in RYLTY”. Those changes begin with track number one titled “Nonstop” which is fitting for the vibes that you continuously find yourself emerged in. Between track one and twelve you’ll find up tempo hits meant for the radio in “Chalice”, “Notice”, “S’mores & Rumchata” and “Alright”. You’ll also hear the artist slowing things down a bit with “4U”, “LoveSICK”, “Virgo Season Interlude” and “My Way”. Pure raps are expressed within the previously mentioned “Nonstop” along with “Gentlemen’s Club”, “Sprite Zero” and “Waver”. If there was a sound that D’Shaun didn’t think was fun or didn’t fit the wave he was gearing towards then it simply didn’t make the cut, the artist says that CRWN “is more fun and shows what wearing the crown is like” when comparing the project to its predecessor KNG.
Four years separate both albums and in between those four years we’ve heard how highly D’Shaun has spoken about the trio of albums he had been planning on releasing with all being companions to one another. With two down and one to go the one man band artist has been growing and maturing within his sound and will only continue to do so. He showcases that behind each verse, chorus, ad-lib, snare, kick or high hat he decides to incorporate into this world where creativity never ends. We can call this world “RYL” and here we’ll find the king at his throne wearing a crown meant for only him, exuding royalty the only way he knows how.
